Kat was born in Melbourne, Australia to worldly parents. Her late father, a talented photographer who served in the Berlin Airlift and later moved to Canada. Her mother, a midwife who also moved to Canada to pursue her career. After spending many cold winters on Lake Ontario they decided to drive through the USA and sail off into the sunset from San Francisco to Australia.
