Description
St. Peter's Baldachin is a large Baroque sculpted bronze canopy designed by the famous Italian artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini. It is placed over the high altar of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City at the center of the crossing and directly under the dome of the basilica. Under its canopy is the high altar of the basilica. It was commissioned by Pope Urban VIII. It took 11 years to finished it, 1623 - 1634.
