An expectant Douglas Squirrel and her mate made themselves at home in our vacant birdhouse. Sadly, our little tenants moved out before the babies were born. The Douglas squirrel is common in the pine forests of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range.

They sometimes move babies before you can even tell they are squirrels!

They may well have! I learned that squirrels can have multiple nests. We had a hot streak and maybe the birdhouse was too hot for babies.
