When approaching from the southwest on Highway 50 there is magnificent view of Lake Tahoe "the jewel of the Sierra" that catches the attention of both tourists and returning locals. This panorama includes not only the clear blue waters of the lake and the surrounding pine covered Sierra Nevada mountains but also an expansive view of the lake’s east shore with Cave Rock in the distance. In the foreground is the Lake Tahoe airport, TVL. This angle is close to a pilot’s perspective approaching runway 36 from the southwest.
